Dawn Chorus / Evensong

2019
An extended composition based on the translation of spectrograms of observed birds on Lake Ontario, following their singing patterns at dawn and dusk. Spectrograms of the bird song were traced onto a musical staff and played as musical notations. These were then processed for an 8 channel audio installation to create an expanded composition that lasts for 14 hours and repeats every 24 hours. As the composition develops it becomes more and more electronic, echoing a distancing from hearing these sounds in the environment through their digitization. Tariffs on US Orders
As of August 22 2026, artworks produced in Canada and shipped to US clients, are subject to U.S. tariffs. Artworks sold by IOTA may be subject to a 50% tariff upon entering the United States, including paintings, drawings, etchings, collages, sculptures, engravings and photography. View the full list of products here. These tariffs impact the entire arts sector, including artist exhibitions, and these tariffs are subject to change.
Our Artist Market line of stationary & wearables is not subject to these new tariffs, and we encourage American clients to reach out to us at iotastudiogallery@gmail.com so we can make arrangements with our shipping and customs brokers.
Public Display
Artwork purchased through IOTA Studio Gallery is not for public display. Canadian Artists' Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) sets presentation standards for Canadian artists, which require that artists be paid equitably for their work, including exhibitions. If the artwork is to be displayed publicly, or in an exhibition, IOTA Studios or the artist must be contacted directly to discuss presentation fees for the artist.
